The Dutch driver was determined to clinch the crown.
Max Verstappen secured his fourth Formula 1® world championship with a strategic drive to fifth place in the Las Vegas Grand Prix, while George Russell led a Mercedes one-two finish under the neon lights of Sin City.
The Dutch driver entered the race knowing he only needed to keep title rival Lando Norris behind him to clinch the crown. Verstappen achieved this by holding position at the start and gradually pulling away from the McLaren driver throughout the 50-lap encounter.

Russell converted Mercedes' strong practice pace into pole position and expertly managed the tricky, cool conditions to claim his first win since July's Belgian Grand Prix. His teammate Lewis Hamilton charged from 10th on the grid to complete a Mercedes lockout of the top two steps on the podium.
Charles Leclerc made a blistering start to jump from fourth to second, but tyre troubles caused him to drop back. The Ferrari driver eventually finished fourth behind teammate Carlos Sainz.

"It's been a long season and of course we started off amazing, it was almost like cruising, but then we had a tough run – but as a team, we kept it together, we kept working on improvements and we pulled off the win," said Verstappen. "Incredibly proud of everyone, what they have done for me, and to stand here as a four-time world champion is of course something I never thought was possible."
The race was not without drama. Pierre Gasly suffered an agonizing retirement from third on the grid due to technical troubles with his Alpine. Oscar Piastri received a five-second time penalty for an incorrect starting position, while Ferrari had a bizarre pit lane incident with Sainz.
