Seven Reasons we Love Albert Park on Thursday

Thursday, 23 March 2023

The most underrated day of the event.

With sell-out crowds once again anticipated, the atmosphere around Albert Park will undoubtedly be goosebump-inducing over the weekend, but there is a cohort of fans that flock to Albert Park every year on opening day (Thursday), many of whom consider it the most underrated day of the event.

Here’s why…

Melbourne Walk

If you’ve never been to an Australian Grand Prix before, Melbourne Walk is your opportunity to get up close to the current stars of Formula 1®.

We see it every year, fans lined up at the gates, ticket in hand, waiting for gates to open, ready to make a mad dash towards Melbourne Walk, hoping for a spot up close on the fence.

TICKETS: Watch two F1® practice sessions, plus F2® and F3® qualifying on Friday at the FORMULA 1 ROLEX AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2023. Secure your Grandstand tickets for only $105, but be quick, as they are selling fast!

Historically we see smaller crowds on Thursday, which for Melbourne Walk means a much better chance to get that selfie or autograph from your favourite driver. Additionally, the teams and drivers tend to be much more relaxed during earlier parts of the week and will often spend more time on Melbourne Walk before their focus shifts towards racing.

FREE Grandstands

All grandstands are FREE on Thursday. All you need is a Park Pass (GA) ticket to enter the circuit and you have your choice of vantage points.

While you won’t see any Formula 1® cars hit the track on Thursday, there is plenty of support category racing with a choc-a-block schedule for Supercars and Porsche.

If you’re new to the Grand Prix or considering a Grandstand ticket in 2024, Thursday is your chance to “try before you buy”, take in views from all 16 grandstands and create your shortlist for next year.

Cheap Tickets

Park Pass (GA) tickets are cheapest on Thursday, with Park Pass (GA) tickets priced at just $40 and with kids (14 and under) going free when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.

Activations

The FORMULA 1 ROLEX AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2023 is blessed to have so many businesses and partners popping up all around Albert Park, ensuring the fun doesn’t stop once the chequered flag is dropped.

From classic car displays to family areas with carnival-style rides, music performances, giveaways, bespoke bars, and heaps more, there is no shortage of things to explore, and Thursday is your day to avoid the lines and get involved.

Smaller Crowds

It’s much easier to get around Albert Park on Thursday with fewer people at the circuit.

Lines for food, drink and entertainment are shorter, views are better and getting in and out of the venue is much easier.

If exploring all parts of the circuit is on your to-do list for this year’s Grand Prix, then Thursday is your day.

It’s a day off work (or school – but don’t tell Mum)
