Ready for race day

Saturday, 9 April 2022

Action on and off the grid as we prepare for the Grand Prix.

Formula 1 will take centre stage at Albert Park for the Formula 1® Heineken® Australian Grand Prix 2022 on Sunday with the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc on pole.

But there is still plenty to see and do, in the buildup to the big race.

The first cars on the track will be for the MSS Ultimate Speed Comparison at 9:30am, where Jamie Whincup’s Holden Commodore Supercar, Harry Bates’s Toyota rally car and Luke Youlden's all-electric Porsche Taycan Turbo A face off against the clock for the final time.

At 10:25am, the S5000 open-wheelers have their final race, with a lot on the line after Saturday’s third race was ended early because of delays in the F1 qualifying sessions.

In the Carrera Cup finale at 11:05am, the opposition has one more chance to dethrone Aaron Love before he heads overseas to take on the best in the Porsche-only category right around the world.

The fourth and final Supercars race at 12 midday of the Beaurepaires 400 weekend will provide one more opportunity for the Ford drivers (and most of the Holden drivers) to beat points leader Shane van Gisbergen, who has dominated the weekend.

The wrinkle for the race is that ’SVG’ will start the race from sixth on the grid. Ford drivers Will Davison and Anton De Pasquale lead the pack from the front row.

The Formula 1 activities start off with the Drivers’ Parade at 1pm, before the main race starts at 3pm.

Off the track, DJ John Course gets the mood going at 10am, followed by the first of the Tech Talks: Racing Together Project at 10am.

The second Tech Talk is at 10:45, with F1’s Chief Technical Office Pat Symonds – the man behind Benetton’s and Renault’s F1 successes in past years.

At 1pm, the Cheeky Geezers take over the stage and at 13:34pm, singer/songwriter Alex Lahey will perform.

Post-race, indie electro pop band Confidence Man (5pm) will continue the party atmosphere followed by Bliss n Eso from 6:30pm.
