Pierre Gasly enjoys most consistent year in Formula 1®

The Frenchman scored his most points in a season.
AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly has reflected on a successful Formula 1® season. The Frenchman finished third in Azerbaijan and scored 110 points for the year.
Gasly experience in F1® to date has had some highs and some lows. After being promoted to the Red Bull racing team in 2019, he was sent back to Toro Rosso (now AlphaTauri) halfway through that very same year. In 2020, he secured his first win at the Italian Grand Prix and became the 109th different race winner and the first French driver since 1996.
AlphaTauri itself had a successful year, with Gasly and teammate Yuki Tsunoda helping the team elevate itself in the Constructors Championship from seventh in 2020 to sixth in 2021.
When asked to comment on his performance in 2021, Gasly said: “Obviously, with Yuki [Tsunoda] coming as a rookie, I had a bit more responsibility in the direction we take, and I feel I’ve learned a lot technically from being more involved.
“I think our car generally is stronger in qualifying more than the race, and in terms of set-up and potential to extract the maximum from the weekend, I think I’ve made a step forward on that side.
“And yes, you get more experience and I think this year was my most consistent in Formula 1 in terms of [how] you always make mistakes but trying to reduce them and maximising all the opportunities you have – this year I feel I’ve made a step on that side, yes.”
“For me, the key point this year was carrying one, or another, year with the same team, which was the first time it happened to me in Formula 1. We have a much better understanding of what we need from each other with the same group of engineers and also, I think a bit more impact in what I need from the car,” added the French driver.
For the FIA Formula 1 Championships™️ season, Gasly will enter his third consecutive season with the team.
The first race of the new season will be in Bahrain on March 18-20, with F1® returning to Melbourne for the Formula 1® Heineken® Australian Grand Prix on April 7-10.
