Jack Doohan claims maiden F3 podium

Monday, 10 May 2021

Another Aussie star excels on the world stage.

Australia’s Jack Doohan took a sensational first podium in the FIA Formula 3 class for Sunday’s feature race.

The 18-year-old Queenslander captured an impressive second-place finish in the hotly-contested championship.

Hopes were high on Friday after claiming P2 in qualifying.

Although the Australian did not secure the results he wanted in the opening two Saturday races with P17 and P8 finishes, he fought back in style on Sunday with full points on offer.

Despite a less-than-ideal start, dropping back to P4, Doohan quickly started to make amends and fought his way back to second.

He held his nerve in the remaining laps to cross the line in P2.

Doohan shared after the Sunday race; “Pretty happy to claim my first Formula 3 Championship podium during the feature race of the weekend.

“Thanks to Trident Team for all their efforts over the round, the guys have done a mega job.

“Unfortunately, I didn’t get results I wanted in Race 1 and 2, but I’m so happy to get the P2 result in Race 3 and head to France with a lot of confidence.”

Doohan now resides fifth overall in the F3 standings with 21 points, trailing series leader Dennis Hauger with 34 points.

The Australian will be back in action in France, 25-27 June for Round 2.
