Fans making their way to the FORMULA 1 ROLEX AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2023 will enjoy faster travel to the event than ever, with free tram travel for ticketholders and an increased taxi fleet of 800 cabs.
The Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) has worked closely with Yarra Trams and event taxi provider 13cabs to increase frequency of services and reduce wait times for what is expected to be the largest crowd in the Albert Park event’s history.
Public transport is the easiest way to travel to the circuit, with free tram services for ticket holders on event days running from Southern Cross Station for Gates 1, 2 and 3, and from Flinders Street Station for Gates 5, 8 and 9. Both stations will have Yarra Trams ambassadors on site to help fans find their way to the event.
Throughout the weekend, trams will run every 1-2 minutes during peak times, and racegoers are encouraged to plan their journey on the PTV website.
An express bus service will also depart from Whiteman Street at Crown Casino to Gates 1, 2 and 3.
13cabs has increased its fleet size by 800 vehicles in the last 12 months and will have manned pick-up zones, which can be found at all gates around the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit.
Australian Grand Prix Corporation General Manager, Operations – Tom Mottram is pleased with the collaboration between AGPC and our Traffic and Transport Committee members and affiliates.
“We work closely with all of our Traffic and Transport Committee members and affiliates, including 13cabs, Victorian Taxi Association, Department of Transport & Planning, VicRoads, Victoria Police, Yarra Trams, as well as ride-share providers to ensure safe and efficient arrival and departures of all patrons to and from the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix,” Mottram said.
“We’re thrilled to work with Yarra Trams to offer free travel on all trams running between the city and the circuit on routes 3/3a, 5, 6, 16, 64 and 67 that run along St Kilda Rd as well as the Grand Prix Express services along routes 12 and 96.”
In addition, two new parking zones for electric scooters have been added around the venue to meet increased popularity, with parking now located at Gates 1, 3, 5, 8 and 10.
