Thursday, 17 February 2022
Fans can expect the world’s best and emerging drivers.
The Formula 1® Heineken® Australian Grand Prix 2022 is back and it’s bigger than ever - boasting an on-track bonanza, that features the world’s best and emerging drivers.
Fans can expect plenty of action, with 22 hours across 35 sessions of on-track entertainment, throughout the four days.
Beginning on Thursday, 7 April the Supercars Melbourne 400 will take to the circuit - the driver who scores the most points will be awarded the Larry Perkins Trophy. Fans will also have the opportunity to witness the new, more powerful, 992 generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars in action in the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia Championship. If that wasn’t enough, expect big sounds as the thunderous S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship roars around the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit.
The 2022 on-track lineup will also showcase exotic and classic cars, as part of the Shannons Historic Demonstration and the much-loved Targa Florio Australian Tribute Rally.
Of course, Formula 1® will make its triumphant return to the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit from Friday, 8 April. A lot has changed since Australia last witnessed the F1® grid in action on home soil.
Since 2019, fifteen drivers are at a new team, including five that have never competed at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit – which has been completely resurfaced and modified, to allow for faster, more competitive racing strategies.
Australian Grand Prix Corporation Division Manager of Motorsport Operations David Corrigan knows how long motorsport fans have been waiting for cars to hit the track.
"After a three-year hiatus, today’s announcement marks fifty days until Formula 1 cars return to the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit. It’s been a long time coming and we’re thrilled to bring motorsport back to Victoria in a big way,” he said.
“Whether you love bold sounds and fast race cars, or classic cars you would expect to see in a museum, the Formula 1 Heineken Australian Grand Prix 2022 has you covered.”
Motorsport Australia will provide approximately 1,000 volunteer marshals, to ensure the successful and safe delivery of all on-track action.
More exciting on-track sessions will be announced in the coming weeks. With so much on offer, there has never been a better time to experience the Formula 1® Heineken® Australian Grand Prix 2022.
Thursday and Friday grandstand tickets are still available, while premium hospitality packages, starting at as low as $299, are now up for grabs.
