Calan Williams: Focus is on Formula 1®

The young Aussie is focused on continually improving.
The Australian Grand Prix podcast In the Fast Lane has released its latest episode, featuring Australian Formula 3 driver, Calan Williams.
Williams joined In the Fast Lane co-hosts Matt Clayton and Michael Lamonato to talk about stepping up his performance in his second world championship season, his maiden podium finishes in France and his aim to follow the trail blazed by fellow West Australian Daniel Ricciardo.
Williams credits his 2021 achievements on maintaining a mindset focused to continually improve and admits the knowledge another Perth driver landed a seat in Formula 1® gives him extra confidence.
“I think so far this year, the biggest improvement has come from the mental side of everything… so I’ve been working with Formula Medicine, a physical and mental training school designed for motorsport, with them I’ve worked on techniques and changing my mindset and the way I approach certain sessions,” said Williams.
“Having someone (Ricciardo) from Perth that I can look up to and say he’s made it, gives that extra bit of confidence in the whole equation of everything that’s going on,” he continued.
His aspirations don’t stop at Formula 3 though, with Williams’ sight is set solely on making it to Formula 1®.
“My focus is this year do F3, then next year step to F2, have one or two years in F2 and if I do well enough then hopefully I move up, that’s the plan that within two or three years I hope to have something organised … the goal is definitely Formula 1 and of course the end goal is World Champion of Formula 1®.”
