Recognised for the successful launch of our Green Prix.
The Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) has been named the winner of the 2022 Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) #SEAChanger Award.
AGPC was recognised for the successful launch of its Green Prix program, which included the launch of waste reduction and food donation initiatives, the use of recycled materials as part of the Albert Park Circuit Modification Project, the return of usable lakeside green space within Albert Park and much more.
As part of the organisation’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, AGPC has also developed the Green Prix Strategy, a five-year plan designed to facilitate continuous improvement in environmental sustainability, in alignment with the environmental goals of Formula 1®, the Victorian Government and the United Nations Sustainability Goals (SDGs).
The Formula 1® Heineken® Australian Grand Prix 2022 will feature a number of initiatives developed to improve the long-term sustainability of the event in Melbourne, championing environmental awareness, promotion and piloting of sustainable technologies and solutions to reduce the carbon footprint of the event.
This ongoing work will be seen in action around the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit during the event, with ample opportunities for fans to engage with and contribute to a greener future for motorsport and major events in Australia.
Round table discussions will be hosted in the Sustainability Pod, bringing together environmental experts alongside motorsport figures and business leaders to discuss the role of sporting organisations in leading environmental change.
Green My Plate is on board in the event’s Phillip Island Precinct to provide reusable plates and bowls, reducing the amount of single-use plastics. Drink packaging will be efficiently recycled through the Return-it Smart Bins located around the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit, while The Only Straw will provide zero-waste, 100% biodegradable rice straws in select bars.
Solar panels will be installed on the Albert Park Pit Building roof, to help power the Formula 1® paddock. While the F1® broadcast area has been built with Emesh, a 100% fully recyclable material which has a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to traditional steel mesh.
AGPC's General Manager - Operations, Amy Hill said we were honoured to receive the award.
“We are honoured to be recognised by the Sports Environment Alliance for our commitment to reducing our environmental impact and continuously improving the overall sustainability of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix,” she said.

We can’t wait to see these initiatives come to life during the event.”
With F1® returning to Albert Park this April for the first time since 2019, the Green Prix Strategy will provide a foundation for the Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix to achieve the organisation’s ultimate goal of world-class sustainable practices and protection of the precious environment it calls home.
