Another driver from Melbourne on the big stage.
17-year-old Japanese-born driver Hugh Barter is set to make his Formula 3® debut this March after officially joining the Campos Racing team for the 2023 F3 season.
The second driver to be announced to Campos, Barter, who grew up in Australia, will join fellow Australian Christian Mansell, who was announced to the team last November.
After racing with the team and placing second at the Spanish F4 Championship in 2022 (six wins and four poles), Barter continued to work with Campos at post-season testing where he experienced his first laps in the FIA F3 car.
2022 proved a standout year for Barter, who also finished runners-up at the F4 French Championship with 10 wins and seven pole positions, continuing his strong form after placing third the year prior.
“We are proud to continue working with Hugh (Barter) after a 2022 season with plenty of success,” Campos Racing Team Principal, Adrian Campos said.
“The Formula 3 championship is yet a more difficult challenge, but we feel confident as he is a very talented driver with excellent skills.”
Barter also expressed his excitement upon graduating to Formula 3 with Campos.
“I’m very happy to announce that I’ll be doing F3 with Campos Racing this year. It’ll be good to keep the relationship going after a strong season with them in Formula 4 so I look forward to it.”
Australian fans now have another reason to get excited for the upcoming FORMULA 1 ROLEX AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2023, with Barter joining fellow Australians; Oscar Piastri, Jack Doohan, Tommy Smith and teammate Christian Mansell on the track at Albert Park come March 30.
