So why will it be any different for Lawson? Red Bull hopes it will; it’s a decidedly unscientific approach for a program that initially preferred Daniel Ricciardo at RB a year ago and saw him outpaced by Yuki Tsunoda in the back-end of 2024, but it’s not one without some logic.
Lawson has speed, a focused maturity outside of the car and a willingness to get his elbows out in it; they’re all traits that augur well compared to the shallow pool of acceptable alternatives.
