The thought of Isack Hadjar racing in F1 in 2025 was highly unlikely as recently as last June, but Sergio Perez’s slump created a ripple effect down the Red Bull pipeline, and the French-Algerian was the beneficiary.

Hadjar bounced back from a so-so rookie F2 campaign to push eventual champion Gabriel Bortoleto to the last race of last season in Abu Dhabi for the intermediate-category crown; Hadjar took a season-best four wins, all in feature races, with one of them coming in Melbourne.
The 20-year-old is arguably the least ready of the six drivers set to embark on their first full F1 seasons, but the stopwatch doesn’t lie. “He need a little bit of polishing, but he has the speed,” was Christian Horner’s assessment when Hadjar’s promotion was confirmed last December.
It shapes as a season of extremes, but one where there’s a chance for Hadjar to capitalise on circumstance.
