The Lotus 18 was the first mid-engined car built by Lotus and was a rather revolutionary development.
At that time many grids still featured larger, heavier front engine cars and the 18 – or the “bread box” as it became affectionately known - soon made it patently obvious that light weight and good handling held clear advantages.
The car was a classic Colin Chapman design, being extremely light and simple; the body was made up of lightweight panels bolted to heavily-triangulated tubular spaceframe chassis.
The 18’s were produced in many variants from the 2500cc Coventry Climax Grand Prix to the 998cc or 1100cc Formula Junior variant as you see here.
