The Elfin Catalina was basically a Formula Junior with a 1500cc Ford Cortina-based engine in place of the 1100cc.
This car is chassis 6316, one of the last FJ/Catalinas built. The Elfin was originally owned and raced by well known peddler Jack Hunnam, the Elfin agent in Victoria. For reasons unknown, Hunnam did not use the original Elfin mag wheels but used the style of the wheels currently on the car.
Also, the car was fitted with disc brakes on the rear in place of the drum brakes usually fitted to these cars.
He ran it at two rounds of the Tasman series in early 1964, at Warwick Farm and Sandown. Shortly after, he sold the car to Victorian driver Len Brennan, who raced it extensively for a short period, before selling it to Graeme McCaughan, who raced it as an FJ (1100cc) for a period.
The Elfin then went through a couple of other owners who didn’t race it, so it sat around for many years. The current owner located the car in Ballarat in late 2022 and purchased it.
A complete restoration was then undertaken. As the Elfin had not raced a lot, given its age, it was in very original condition and not modified over the years as many race cars are. It is now presented in green, the colour when Jack Hunnam raced it.
