This car is chassis #6802 and the second Elfin 600 constructed at the Elfin Sports Cars factory in Adelaide.
It was initially built as a “works” car and raced by Garrie Cooper, owner of the Elfin business and chief designer. The Elfin was originally powered by a 1760 cc Ford Twin Cam engine matched to a five-speed Hewland transmission.
Cooper enjoyed considerable success with the car, running as Formula Libre until it was sold.
The new owner replaced the power unit with a 1600 cc Ford twin cam to meet the AN Formula 2 regulations of the time.
The Elfin then passed through numerous owners prior to being purchased by the current owner, Laurie Bennett, in 2021, who returned it to its original specification.
Significant race wins for Laurie include the John Dawson-Damer Trophy SMP twice, the Leo Geoghegan Trophy at Sydney Motorsport Park twice and the Phil Irving Trophy at Winton.
