1964 Brabham BT11A

Racing Past Presented by Shannons Insurance.

This was the second of five of this model manufactured in 1964 fitted with the Coventry Climax FPF 2.5-litre engine.

It was purchased ex-factory by Australian Bib Stillwell who won the 1965 Australian Drivers Championship Gold Star Award in this car.

The car was then sold to well-known former driver and team-owner Alec Mildren and driven by successful Australian International Frank Gardner.

The combination raced in both Australia and New Zealand events including the Tasman series featuring the Australian Grand Prix with wins and podium finishes.

In 1966 it was loaned to Jackie Stewart for the Surfers Paradise race where he set the fastest lap.

One other BT11A was raced extensively by Jack Brabham including a win in the Australian Grand Prix.

The car was stored under a house in Auckland, New Zealand from the mid 1970’s until purchased in 2011 by the current owner Peter Strauss and totally restored.

It is currently raced in the historic events in Group M & O category and competed successfully at Phillip Island just two weeks ago.
