Away from the cockpit the multi-lingual Rosberg’s interests range from the physical, like soccer and triathlons, to the intellectual, like chess and backgammon – not your typical modern F1 star. He’s also a man with a sense of history.

While in Berlin for a fashion show appearance early this year Nico took time out for a few selfies, all taken at key points in 20th-century history such as Checkpoint Charlie, the notorious border crossing between the western and eastern sectors of that tragically divided city.

World Champions are busy blokes.

Since clinching his second title in November Lewis has collected the coveted BBC television Sports Personality of the Year Award, signed up with media agency Purple PR, appeared at the Louis Vuitton Menswear show, posted shots of himself having a day out in his Pagani Zonda and done all sorts of other fun things to celebrate his achievement.

Ferrari quickest as Mercedes pile on the laps in testing

Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel have given the Ferrari faithful plenty to get excited about during the first test at Jerez in Spain, topping three of the four days.

The outright pace of the SF15-T was complemented by long runs, including 106 laps for Raikkonen on the final day, but it was World Champions Mercedes that dominated the lap counter with well over 400 laps for the test.

“Over the winter, we have made a good step forward and this car is definitely an improvement over the 2014 one,” Raikkonen said.

Formula One 2015 begins – Day 1 at Jerez

Formula One is back, with (almost) all teams hitting the track for day one of the first pre-season test at Jerez in Spain.

Four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel ended the day quickest in his first outing for Ferrari, but it was Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg that sent an ominous warning to the rest of the paddock, completing 157 laps – more than double the amount of the next best.

Australian Daniel Ricciardo debuted a striking new Infiniti Red Bull Racing test livery and was fourth fastest, completing 35 laps.
