Three-time Formula One World Champion, Sir Jack Brabham, AO, OBE, has passed away at age 88.
He will forever be remembered as one of motorsport’s most influential figures, not only in Australia but around the world.
In 1966, Brabham became the first and only man to win the World Championship in a car bearing his own name. It is a feat unlikely to ever be replicated.
Chairman of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, Ronald J Walker and CEO, Andrew Westacott, on behalf of the Corporation’s board and staff, have expressed great sadness at the passing of Sir Jack Brabham.
“The contributions that Sir Jack made to the sport as well as the Australian Grand Prix will never be forgotten and his legacy will continue to resonate amongst drivers and fans alike.”
“Our thoughts are very much with his wife, Lady Brabham, and his three racing sons and their families.”
